DARLING DOWNTOWN FREDERICK SUNRISE ENGAGEMENT | JENNIFER & CHRIS | MARYLAND WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHER

“We were set up by our mothers”

“I know, I know. But they worked together and just kept mentioning us to each other, so we finally caved and I’m so glad we did. I don’t know if I could pick just one thing I love about him.”

Although this love story has the sweetest of endings, it didn’t necessarily start that way. Imagine going to meet someone your mother set you up with. Your expectations probably aren’t that high. Add in some heavy nerves and huge dose of awkwardness and VOILA! The first date. “It was such an awkward drive (I was super shy and had no idea what to say). The ride back was just as awkward and it ended in us not talking again (probably more my doing than his).”

What? That can’t be the end?

Fear not, you hopeless romantics, Jennifer and Chris will meet again. As luck would have it, Jennifer got last minute tickets to another hockey game. (The World Cup actually) and lo and behold, not one of her friends or family was available to go with her. So she started to run down the list of people she knew and BAM! Chris’ name popped right into her head. Her mom had been mentioning him every now and then since that first date…Maybe he would like to go? So she asked him and of course he said yes. The second time around must have been the charm because they had so much fun. Conversation flowed and they just kept learning more and more about each other, including his current house hunt in Frederick. This led to a series of more dates involving tours around the lovely Frederick area, and eventually a beautiful fixer upper for the two of them to work on together! “He’s done so much work on our house to make it a home (building a fire pit, landscaping, building me a garden, making our bathroom door a sliding barn door, etc). I felt at home the moment I first saw it after he closed (we split the congratulatory champagne). Downtown Frederick is where our love grew.” Ugh. My heart, you guys! They are a regular Chip and Jo! and I can barely take it!

They are too sweet!

Jennifer had no idea Chris was planning on proposing. Everyone had been teasing her that it would happen during their trip to Scotland (apparently that was a plan that he originally thought of) Honestly, though, she really wasn’t thinking about them getting married yet. “You know when you’re just perfectly happy at the stage you’re at and not rushing anything?” Well Chris asked randomly one day if they wanted to try and catch a Capitals playoff game. They got tickets to the Penguins game on April 29 and since it was an afternoon game, he suggested they head to DC early and walk around the mall. Chris works in the DC area and they rarely spent time there to on their own, so Jennifer gladly agreed to this impromptu date-add-on! While they were walking around the Mall, Chris pointed out a tree by the Washington Monument that was away from all the tourists. He isn’t a big crowded place person so it didn’t throw Jennifer off one bit. And there in that tree, in their own little corner of the world, is where he asked her. “I don’t think I remember what he said, I was so excited for him to stop talking so I could say YES!” Would you believe that the Capitals won the game that night too? Jennifer & Chris like to joke that is was because of their love. Ugh. Seriously, how cute is that??!

And now that their house is almost done

After almost always unsuccessfully trying to sleep in, the two love birds will wake up and have coffee. Only if Chris doesn’t make breakfast “Chris makes breakfasts that are the bombdiggity!”  They will then most likely go by Lowes. Even though their house is almost done, these two will always find some new way to make their house a home. “Saturday nights are usually pretty low key for us, we’ll stay in and make dinner and watch a movie or play a board game (scrabble or Yahtzee)” Following their sweet backyard wedding, there is no doubt that these two will be back at that house by morning, pouring their hearts into this little home they made together.
