HOOD COLLEGE SPRING ENGAGEMENT SESSION | KATI & SHANE | MARYLAND PORTRAIT PHOTOGRAPHER

These two look familiar…

You are correct! Kati and Shane did things a little backwards due to their elopement style wedding back in December, so now that the spring buds are out and the days are warmer it’s time for their engagement session! And what better place to recreate magical moments than the campus where they first met? Hood College was a beautiful backdrop for this spring session and we came on the Absolute Perfect day for a stroll down memory lane.

That Annoying Neighbor

Kati was a freshman and Shane a sophomore at Hood College in 2008. Kati and her roommate moved in to the dorm room directly above Shane and his roommate. ” I initially hated Shane because he played music so loud that the pictures on my walls would fall off.”  The rivalry escalated from there with a series of pranks between the two rooms, including messing with each other’s laundry. After a few months of this rivalry, Kati and Shane finally had a chance to get to know each other as more than “that annoying neighbor,” at a party and ended up dating. But it was not to last. Once Shane continued his career and joined the Navy, the relationship was broken off. The idea of finding your person and being ripped away from them so suddenly is just all sorts of unfair!

3,000 Miles Apart

Life went on. For 7 years the two figured out who they were and built their lives to what they are today. Shane continued his career in the Navy and is now an esteemed Navy Fighter Pilot, flying F-18s. And Kati continued on to law school and is now a lawyer. They probably thought they would never see each other again. That is was just another college romance, but see it wasn’t. As chance would have it, an accidental Snapchat would bring these two back into each other’s lives and I think I can speak for all involved that this is the Snapchat that started it all! Who knew right? After that accidental snapchat, the two continued to talk and catch up every day. At that time, Shane was stationed in Lemoore, CA, and Kati was living in Baltimore, Maryland; nearly 3,000 miles apart! Despite their incredibly demanding schedules as an aviator and lawyer, the two took every opportunity to see one another, sometimes flying across the country for a stay of only a day or two. Kati and Shane continued their long-distance relationship for almost a year until, as fate would have it, Shane received orders to the East Coast. They now live happily in Virginia Beach, Virginia.

One Minute Before Midnight

“I am obsessed with Harry Potter, and Shane has now also grown a love for it as well.”

For her 28th birthday, the two went to the Universal Studios for a well deserved trip to Harry Potter World! Talk about a magical birthday present! But the magic wasn’t to end there. They stayed out all night walking about in Citywalk, enjoying the gardens and waterway. Stopping at one of the balconies, they paused for some pictures (because seriously, the water was turquoise!) and then ONE MINUTE before midnight, Shane got down on his knee and asked this impossibly wonderful girl to marry him.
