THE UNBREAKABLE VOW: A MAGICAL WINTER WEDDING | KATI & SHANE | MARYLAND WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHER

There’s something about Kati…(and eventually Shane)

These two are HUGE Harry Potter fans, so it’s no surprise that their wedding ceremony was peppered with all sorts of references and momentos. The whole thing started with Kati, who, like most of us, I assume, started reading the books as a child and instantly fell in love with the whole Harry Potter World. It would only make sense that she would want to share this love with her fiance! And as we all know, you can’t dislike Harry Potter after reading Harry Potter! And to these two it was more symbolic than anything. I mean the whole theme of the series is LOVE.

“When we picked our bands up before the wedding, we found out that we both engraved the exact same thing in each other’s band – “Always.” The full quote is “After all this time? Always.” The significance of that quote or “always” to us is similar to “it was always you.” In sum, no matter where life took us and no matter what the journey was to get back to each other, it was always Shane/Kati.” Ugh my sentimental heart, you guys. The truest of loves couldn’t hold a candle to these two!

 

 

The Wedding

Since Kati and Shane had already endured a long distance relationship after 7 WHOLE YEARS of separation, they wasted no time, when they were finally together again.  “When Shane was in California waiting for his next orders (we thought he was going to get stationed in CA for another 3 years and didn’t think he had a good shot at getting the East Coast), the thought of him having to stay there for another 3 years and me not being with him terrified me.” Can you imagine the elation when they realized they could be together?

When planning their wedding, they decided pretty early on, that they wanted their wedding to be intimate and romantic, which is why they picked an elopement style wedding. – “The most important thing to us was the actual ceremony and the creation of a marriage. Shane and I wrote the ceremony script ourselves, as well as our vows.” And that seriously is the most important thing. If it’s pretty then you have a pretty wedding, but if it’s meaningful and truly present then it’s a BEAUTIFUL wedding to memorialize for years to come.

 

 

 

The One That Got Away

How do you know when someone is no longer just a maybe and instead a resounding YES? For many it is different, but for these two it was during their separation that they had time to realize this.

Shane knew back in 2011 when he was enduring the most rigorous training of his life. “It is a grueling and difficult training, to say the least. OSC challenges you physically and mentally. At the time, Kati and I were not together. One night, after an extremely hard day, I remember laying in bed thinking about Kati. The thought of seeing Kati one day again kept me going through OCS. I knew then, that she was the one for me. Before we got back together, I use to describe Kati as “the one who got away.”

And Kati? Well she knew the minute they reconnected. “Even after 7 years of not communicating or being in each others lives, we instantly felt comfortable with one another and picked up right where we left off; it was as if we were never apart!”  They were meant to be! The plan was always and Shane and Kati. Even when it seemed like they would never be together, Kati just knew.

“I’ve always put my career first, but for the first time in my life, my priorities shifted, and I was ready to completely rearrange my life, take another bar exam, and move to wherever he was because I honestly couldn’t imagine my life without him.” I think that about covers it, don’t you?

 

Kati & Shane, as you can see above, I’m one of your biggest fans and I have totally “shipped” your relationship. May it grow and bloom into the most beautiful of loves.
